Sunday-May, 31, 2026: Chef Anirban Dasgupta’s journey begins in the historic town of Chittaranjan in West Bengal, a place renowned for housing India’s first railway locomotive manufacturing factory and known for its rich heritage, spiritual significance and scenic location along the banks of the Damodar River. Growing up amidst a culturally vibrant environment, He was deeply influenced by the traditions, educational values and disciplined lifestyle of his family. His father, a Metallurgical Engineer, instilled the importance of knowledge, commitment and professional excellence, while his mother, a talented Bharatanatyam dancer and accomplished performer of Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti and Pally Geeti, nurtured artistic expression and cultural appreciation within the family.
Along with his brother, young Anirban was introduced to the world of music through tabla training, helping him develop discipline, creativity and patience from an early age. These formative experiences played a crucial role in shaping his personality and laid the foundation for his future journey in the hospitality and culinary industry.

As his father’s transferable profession required frequent relocation, the family later moved to Kalyani, one of West Bengal’s most well-planned cities, envisioned by the legendary Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. It was here that Anirban continued his educational journey and developed a strong academic foundation. He began his primary education at St. Francis Xavier Academy before completing his early schooling at Meter Junior School. His secondary education was pursued at Pannalal Institution, where he not only focused on academics but also cultivated life skills that would later support his professional aspirations.
The values of hard work, discipline, respect and service became deeply embedded in his character during these formative years. Surrounded by a family that valued both education and culture, He learned the importance of balancing intellectual growth with personal development. This unique combination of heritage, education and cultural exposure helped him build a strong foundation that would eventually guide him toward a rewarding career in hospitality, food production and culinary arts.

Gajar ka Halwa.
Driven by a passion for hospitality and a desire to serve others, Aspiring Anirban enrolled at the Academy of International Hospitality Management (A.I.H.M.), Salt Lake City, Kolkata, where he embarked on his professional journey in hotel management. During his first year, he initially aspired to build a career in the Food and Beverage department. However, his perspective changed after being inspired by one of his mentors, Chef Arijit Sarkar. Seeing his professor confidently wearing the iconic white chef coat filled him with positivity, motivation and a newfound admiration for the culinary profession.
This inspiration ultimately led him to specialize in Food Production and Culinary Arts during his third year, pursuing a City & Guilds, London, UK specialization. Since then, he has considered himself fortunate to be part of the ever-evolving culinary world. His passion for cooking extends far beyond professional achievement; it is deeply connected to his desire to bring joy to people through food. From childhood, he found immense satisfaction in serving meals to those in need and helping underprivileged communities. This spirit of compassion and hospitality continues to define his culinary philosophy today. This article marks the first chapter of Chef Anirban Dasgupta’s inspiring journey.
